Find tranquility spending a few days in Ransoms
Woods, a private former twenty-acre farm surrounded by woods. Located in the
rolling foothills of Western North Carolina, it is situated near the small town
of Hudson (28638), near Lenoir (el. 1300 feet), some thirty five minutes from
either Hickory or Blowing Rock (el.3300 feet). Ransoms Woods is some two
miles from a shopping center on four lane NC Highway 321 North with five
restaurants (including Japanese), a grocery store, two pharmacies, urgent care
center, etc.
Sleep in the Myers house, a cozy, fully furnished two
bedroom modernized rustic 1930ish country cottage with solid wooden walls and
ceilings, a new deck and a new exterior of rough lumber. Find peace watching
the sun set beyond the pasture, walking on trails in the woods, sitting on the
dam of a private one-acre lake in a ravine in the woods where deer and Canada
geese visit occasionally.
Before long you will be able to sleep in the
William Harvey Austin House, one of the oldest, if not THE oldest continuously
lived in residence in the southern part of Caldwell County. Built in 1887 of
heart pine milled on its own former 600 acre tract, it has had no significant
alterations since then, except, of course, indoor baths, and it now qualifies
to be registered as a historic house of America. It is an authentic typical
simple rural farm house of its era with three fireplaces, a tin roof, and solid
pre-tongue-in-groove wooden walls and ceilings. It has four large rooms
downstairs and two small attic bedrooms with narrow steps leading to them. It
is currently being refurbished inside with a brand new kitchen and an
additional bathroom, and should be ready to be rented in mid to late summer of
this year. It will also then be rented completely furnished , just as the Myers
house, some 250 feet away is now being rented on a daily, weekly, or monthly
basis. Both houses are located on the same ancient dirt road, some 1500 feet
from a paved street. Both have modern heat and air.
Ideal for ...
(1) The Myers House is small,
but large enough to sleep four people comfortably in its two bedrooms, plus one
or two on the hide-a-bed. It is suitable for a family on vacation using it as a
base for a visit to the Grandfather Mountain and Boone area, the fifth most
visited tourist spot in the nation, or to Hiddenite, NC (20 miles) to pan for
gems, or to other Western North Carolina tourist sites. It would also be
suitable for a honeymoon or celebration of some anniversary or for two couples
who wish to spend some private time together. It might also be used for a
family reunion or a place to spend time with family or friends in this area,
and even for an individual who needs to have great privacy for a while for
whatever reason.
(2) The William Harvey Austin
house is much larger and will be able to sleep seven or eight people. It will
be large enough to be used for small private business meetings and conferences
of various sorts, including educational seminars, religious retreats, large
family reunions, etc. and even for larger meetings if both houses are rented
together sufficiently ahead of time. It should be of special interest to old
house buffs, since as a matter of fact, it already is. Catering is available
nearby.
